Hypothesis:
Many young women are dating older men, therefore this seems to be a problem in the eyes of adults and their teen daughters lives. Several people feel when a young woman dates an older man it will lead in a higher chance of woman getting pregnant. The question I am answering is if women who date older men are more likely to get pregnant. My hypothesis is young women that date older men most likely will get pregnant as a cause of the age difference.
Context:
Before I go further into my research, I am trying to show a correlation between age and the rate of young teenage women getting pregnant when dating older men. Young women are the targeted group for my investigation and are the ones that should have a say in the matter. They are the ones dating the older men and because of this some of them have children with older men. My respondents are the ones who would date older men or know friends who do and that is why my information is reliable.
Results:
Survey Questions | Females |
Have you ever dated an older man? | 76% of females have dated an older man |
Would you rather date an older man? | 92% of females rather date older men |
Do you feel that is okay to? | 80% of females think that it is okay to date an older man |
What age gap do you feel is too much? | 40% of females think 2-4 is too much 60% of females think 4-6 is too much |
Check all reasons for young females dating older males | 68% of females picked similar answers for the checking |
Data Analysis:
Most women agreed younger women who date older men are more likely to get pregnant. Those who dated older men also agreed with the statements of why they dated older men. Surprisingly most thought they dated older men for other reasons than upsetting their parents. Only a few of the women answered a survey believed they would rather date older men. There was a few contradictions between the women you dated older men saying they didn't think it was okay to date older men. There are some patterns I saw like many of the women that took my survey had about the same answers. They all felt 2-6 years was too much of an age gap when dating an older man. Many of the answers for the check all that apply were exactly the same and that was a pattern I first noticed. I noticed 76 percent of females have dated older men are the ones that would rather date older men.
Conclusion:
My hypothesis was right, after viewing my data collected many young women who were involved older men are more likely to become pregnant in their teen years. I was surprised to see the contradictions arose when giving the survey and that was the strange pattern I noticed. I can conclude women feel like older men affect the teen pregnancy rate, however the teens did not feel it was that much of a problem.
Follow up:
I would like to gather a better understanding on why women choose to date older men. Is there some factor that attracts women to older men other than obvious reasons that have been stated? I am going to evaluate the ideas of young men and older men to better understand their ideas on my topic, however the information I find will not truely affect my data. This is what I would like to further investigate in research memo 2.
